There had been rumours of Stormtroopers decked out in chrome in J.J. Abrams’ highly anticipated Star Wars Episode VII, and now the first photo of one of them appears to have found its way online.

According to the site that posted the image below, these chrome clad Stormtroopers won’t be wearing a hood in the movie itself (it’s possible that this photo was taken on set and the actor in the costume was just wearing it to avoid being spotted…that clearly didn’t work!), and that, “the metal collar stands up from the torso armor and curves up on the sides before dipping down again at the back.”

Or course, there are plenty of rumours surrounding why exactly Star Wars Episode VII will feature chrome Stormtroopers, with some saying that they’re a private security force for Adam Driver’s unknown character.

We’re just going to have to wait and see if that pans out, but there’s no denying how cool this one looks!

Starring original cast members Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, Kenny Baker and franchise newcomers, John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Gwendoline Christie, Lupita Nyong’o and Max von Sydow, Star Wars Episode VII is set to be released on December 18th, 2015.
