It seems almost unthinkable that next year marks the 20th anniversary of Michael Mann’s universally-acclaimed Heat. Fans of Mann’s work will have two reasons to celebrate in 2015, because the renowned filmmaker will also be bringing us his latest offering, the action/thriller Blackhat.

The film sees Chris Hemsworth take the lead as a hacker, travelling the world, tasked with bringing down a cybercrime network. And with just under four months to go before Mann’s latest arrives, Universal and Legendary have launched the first trailer.

Set within the world of global cybercrime, Legendary’s Blackhat follows a furloughed convict and his American and Chinese partners as they hunt a high-level cybercrime network from Chicago to Los Angeles to Hong Kong to Jakarta. Directed and produced by Michael Mann, the film stars Chris Hemsworth, Viola Davis, Tang Wei and Wang Leehom, and it is written by Morgan Davis Foehl and Mann. Legendary’s Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni produce alongside Mann, while Alex Garcia and Eric McLeod serve as the executive producers.

Hemsworth is joined by a promising ensemble, starring alongside Viola Davis, Tang Wei, Wang Leehom, and Holt McCallany, with Mann co-writing the script with Morgan David Foehl.

Blackhat hits US cinemas on January 16th, before crossing the Atlantic on February 20th in the UK.
