Production has commenced on the HBO Original ‘Harry Potter’ television series at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in the UK, marking the start of a brand-new chapter in one of the most beloved franchises in entertainment history.
As production gets underway, HBO has released the first behind-the-scenes image from the set, offering a tantalising glimpse of the magic to come. With the story poised to unfold in a new, serialised format, the series aims to deliver the depth and detail that have long made the books a cornerstone of modern fantasy.
The upcoming series, a decade-spanning adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s iconic book series, is set to debut in 2027 on HBO and streaming on HBO Max in territories where available, including newly launching markets Germany, Italy, and the UK.

Written and executive produced by Francesca Gardiner (Succession, His Dark Materials), the series promises a faithful, in-depth reimagining of the original novels with a fresh cast and episodic storytelling that will explore the world of Hogwarts like never before.
Joining Gardiner behind the scenes is Emmy-winning director Mark Mylod (The Menu, Succession), who will executive produce and direct multiple episodes. The series is a collaboration between HBO, Brontë Film and TV, and Warner Bros. Television.
J.K. Rowling, Neil Blair, and Ruth Kenley-Letts will serve as executive producers via Brontë Film and TV, with longtime franchise producer David Heyman (Harry Potter, Paddington, Barbie) also returning under his Heyday Films banner.
