The Cornetto Trilogy actor Nick Frost has entered into final negotiations to take on the role of Rubeus Hagrid in HBO’s ‘Harry Potter’ series.
It has also been confirmed that John Lithgow will take on the role of Albus Dumbledore.
A prominent character in the ‘Harry Potter’ series of books, Hagrid was played by Robbie Coltrane in the original film franchise and appeared in all eight installments. Coltrane died in 2022 at the age of 72.

Paapa Essiedu is reportedly a top contender to play Severus Snape. The roles of Harry, Hermione and Ron – the trio of main characters – will likely be played by newcomers, as Warner Bros. launched an open casting call for kids aged between 9 and 11 in the fall of 2024.
Frost can next be seen in June in Universal’s live-action remake of ‘How to Train Your Dragon.’
