A familiar creak echoes through the corridors of Button House once more, but this time, the spirits are stepping beyond the small screen. Lionsgate UK has officially announced that ‘Ghosts: The Possession of Button House’ will arrive in cinemas across the UK and Ireland on Friday, 23 October 2026, perfectly timed to cast a playful spell over the Halloween half-term.

Ghosts, the beloved and brilliantly bonkers sitcom, is making the leap from television to cinema. While the plot of the upcoming film remains tightly under wraps, filming is currently underway at the iconic West Horsley Place alongside various locations across the South East of England.

Behind the camera, director Simon Hynd leads the charge, while the original creative core reunites to pen the script: Mathew Baynton, Simon Farnaby, Martha Howe-Douglas and Jim Howick. Expect the same signature blend of absurdity, heart, and historical hilarity that turned the series into a phenomenon.

The film reunites the full ensemble cast, including Baynton, Farnaby, Howe-Douglas, Howick, Laurence Rickard and Ben Willbond, alongside Lolly Adefope, Charlotte Ritchie and Kiell Smith-Bynoe.

Produced by Monumental Television, ‘Ghosts’ enjoyed a wildly successful run on BBC One, spanning five series. Its final episode drew an impressive 7.2 million viewers, cementing its place as the most-watched comedy series in the UK in 2023.

Across the Atlantic, the show’s supernatural charm continues to thrive. The US adaptation, produced by Lionsgate Television in partnership with CBS Studios and BBC Studios LA, is currently in its fifth season, with a sixth already commissioned.
