The Coen Brothers’ follow-up to the Oscar-nominated A Serious Man, True Grit, has attracted some buzz ever since it was first announced.

Now, courtesy of The Playlist, we have the first official image from the film.

Starring Jeff Bridges, Josh Brolin, Matt Damon, Hailee Steinfield and Barry Pepper; True Grit is an adaptation of the 1968 novel written by Charles Portis. The Coen Brothers wrote the screenplay.

Synopsis: True Grit centres on Mattie Ross (Steinfeld), a young girl who acquires the assistance of aging, drunken U.S. Marshal Rooster J. Cogburn (Bridges) and young Texas Ranger, La Boeuf (Damon) to track down her father’s killer, Tom Chaney (Brolin), who has taken to a gang led by “Lucky” Ned Pepper (Pepper).

I’m very intrigued to see how this film turns out. The Coen Brothers touched on the western genre in No Country For Old Men to great acclaim, so I have no doubt that this will please critics, and Coen fans alike, when it’s released.

You can have a look at the first official image, which introduces us to Mattie Ross (Steinfield) and Marshal Reuben J. Cogburn (Bridges), below:

True Grit is scheduled to be released in the US on December 25, 2010.
