Garnering strong praise coming out of TIFF last month, David O. Russell’s Silver Linings Playbook, his follow-up to the Oscar-winning The Fighter, emerged as a big contender in the coming Oscar season in plenty of the major categories.

Starring Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence in the leads, we caught a new trailer for the film last week following its debut, and now the first clip has been released online.

“Pat Solatano has lost everything — his house, his job, and his wife. He now finds himself living back with his mother and father after spending eight months is a state institution on a plea bargain. Pat is determined to rebuild his life, remain positive and reunite with his wife, despite the challenging circumstances of their separation. All Pat’s parents want is for him to get back on his feet – and to share their family’s obsession with the Philadelphia Eagles football team. When Pat meets Tiffany, a mysterious girl with problems of her own, things get complicated. Tiffany offers to help Pat reconnect with his wife, but only if he’ll do something very important for her in return. As their deal plays out, an unexpected bond begins to form between them, and silver linings appear in both of their lives.”

Julia Stiles, Robert De Niro, Chris Rock, and Jacki Weaver complete the cast nicely, with Russell directing from his own script, adapting the original novel, The Silver Linings Playbook, by Matthew Quick.

Silver Linings Playbook will be released in the UK and US on 21st November, giving us just a matter of weeks before it arrives on the big screen. I can’t wait. This looks set to be one of the biggest contenders of the year, and it’s always good to have something like that to look forward to. For now, here’s the first clip from the film, giving us a taste of what to expect.
