He revealed that during the filming of upcoming two-part Breaking Dawn, he’ll be overseeing a Janis Joplin biopic, to be directed by non other than City of God director Fernando Meirelles, with Amy Adams (Junebug, Enchanted) in the title role.

Other not much is known about the project at present, I’m guessing the film will deal with Joplin’s early life, her rise to fame as part of the band Big Brother and the Holding Company, and her subsequent solo career and private life.

It’s not known if this film has any link to the Penelope Spheeris Joplin biopic, Gospel According to Janis, which was set to star Zooey Deschanel a few years ago before it was put on hold. That film was supposed to have been set on the last day of Joplin’s life with flashbacks making up part of the narrative.

It’s certainly an interesting project, and any film directed by Meirelles is to be worth a look. Amy Adams’ supposed involvement only adds icing to the cake.

You can read more of Wyck Godfrey’s interview over at FearNet, and we’ll bring you more on this untitled Janis Joplin biopic as it develops.
