We’ve known for quite some time that J.J. Abrams wouldn’t be back to helm Star Trek. After all, he’s busy in a Galaxy Far, Far Away with Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens! So, who will be his replacement?

For some time, it was Roberto Orci. Star Trek 3 would be hisĀ first time directing, and according to one report, it was The Amazing Spider-Man 2 scribe’s script for the threequel which led to his departure as Paramount Pictures decided to go in a different direction in time for the franchise’s 50th anniversary in 2016.

Both Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead) and Rupert Wyatt (Rise of the Planet of the Apes) were named as frontrunners, but the studio have chosen the one man they actually talked to; Fast & Furious’ Justin Lin!

Lin is currently hard at work on the first two episodes of True Detective’s second season, but has time in his to helm Star Trek 3 after Universal decided to give the release date which had been set for his Bourne Legacy sequel to the highly anticipated Bourne movie which will reunite Paul Greengrass and Matt Damon.

It’s not clear what this means for the Fast & Furious franchise as it was recently revealed that he’s wanted back to direct a series of those movies which would bring the extremely popular racing series to a close.

Regardless, we now know that it’s Justin Lin who is being beamed up for Star Trek 3. What do you think?
