With the anticipated release of MGM and Orion Pictures’ new film Valley Girl, we sat down with its two impressive leads to chat about returning to the 1980s.

Valley Girl stars Jessica Rothe (Happy Death Day) and Josh Whitehouse (Poldark) star as Julie and Randy respectively, a valley girl and a punk rocker from the city who defy their parents and friends to begin a love story that may or may not have a happy ending. A remake of the 1983 film, which co-starred a young Nicolas Cage, the new version has become a musical, bringing many of your favourite songs to life in new ways through this Romeo and Juliet-style take.

Rothe and Whitehouse spoke to us about the lure of both the characters and the story, how the 1980s helps to tell stories that cross space and time and why the new film is the perfect antidote to the trouble times we are all currently facing.

Valley Girl is available on VOD and streaming platforms from Friday, May 8th.
