The Equalizer 2 is the very first time the revered filmmaker Antoine Fuqua has made a sequel to one of his own films, and to mark its release we sat down with the man himself to ask what it was about this world that enticed him to step back into it.

Fuqua explains to us about the understated approach, and why he opted for such a character driven follow-up with this offering – again starring Denzel Washington in the lead role – and whether he has been approached to direct any other sequels in his career that he felt just weren’t right.

He goes on to tell us which of his films he would most love to revisit one day, and whether superhero comparisons made to this latest production are valid. He tells us whether he’s ever been approached to direct a superhero movie, and admits he has a meeting lined up with Kevin Feige himself about helming the forthcoming Marvel blockbuster on Morbius.

We also ask if we may ever see an Equalizer 3, he tells us more about his new Muhammad Ali documentary, and he comments on the never-ending 007 rumours surrounding a certain Idris Elba, squashing rumours in the process that he had any inside information courtesy of Barbara Broccoli.
