The Oscar-winning Chris Wedge (Ice Age) makes an anticipated return behind the camera this year to bring us Epic, the latest animated blockbuster from Blue Sky Studios.
The latest trailer debuted at the start of the month, giving us another brilliant look at the family-friendly adventure we have coming our way. And with its release just under two months away, Fox have debuted a new featurette from the Kids’ Choice Awards, focusing on Beyoncé Knowles and the character she voices, Queen Tara.
EPIC is a 3D CG action-adventure comedy that reveals a hidden world unlike any other. From the creators of ICE AGE and RIO, EPIC tells the story of an ongoing battle deep in the forest between the forces of good who keep the natural world alive and the forces of evil who wish to destroy it. When a teen age girl finds herself magically transported into this secret universe, she must band together with a rag-tag team of fun and whimsical characters in order to save their world… and ours.
As usual, there’s a brilliant voice cast assembled for this animated adventure film, led by Amanda Seyfried, Colin Farrell, Christoph Waltz, Aziz Ansari, Josh Hutcherson, Jason Sudeikis, Pitbull, Steven Tyler, Blake Anderson, Judah Friedlander, and Beyoncé.
Wedge is making only his third film as director, returning behind the camera for the first time since 2005’s Robots. He’s directing from a script by Tom J. Astle and Matt Ember (Get Smart) and Daniel Shere, and I can’t wait to see the results.
Epic will be released in 3D on 22nd May in the UK, following two days later in the US on May 24th. That release date will see it opening against Fast and Furious 6 and The Hangover Part III. Fortunately, Epic will have the family vote pretty much locked. And here’s to hoping that all three films will rise at the box office that weekend, because I can’t wait to see them all.
