Just two short weeks ago, we got wind of a pretty intriguing project that Fox 2000 had picked up for Will Ferrell to produce, called He’s F***king Perfect.

The script comes from newcomer Lauryn Kahn, who’s been working as an assistant to Adam McKay (Anchorman, Step Brothers) for four years. She sold the script for $1m. again $1.5m., which is just a little bit of a life-changing figure – so much so that she’s leaving her assistant job to write full time, which I think is pretty excellent.

Word now comes from Deadline that none other than the brilliant young actress Emma Stone is in talks to star in the film (which Deadline are referring to as He’s F***kin’ Perfect [though they don’t use asterisks]), and things are apparently looking good that talks will go well. Too awesome.

“The comedy focuses on a social media savvy girl who is pessimistic about love and vets her friends’ dates to find flaws. When that process leads her to uncover the perfect guy, she decides to use her internet research skills to turn herself into his perfect match.”

Will Ferrell and Adam McKay will be producing, and they’ve both been helping Kahn with the script and giving her notes to help shape it. And what’s even better is that the script wasn’t even meant to be shopped yet.

According to Deadline, Ferrell and McKay’s production shingle, Gary Sanchez, sent the script to Stone in the hopes that she would want to star in it, which would in turn no doubt have made it easier to sell. But then it leaked and got passed around the studios, and Fox 2000 were one of four bidding on it.

Gary Sanchez wanted to wait an extra day to allow two more studios into the bidding, but Fox then set the bar a little higher, offering the seven-figure deal with a 90-minute expiration – and they took it. (You could shoot an episode of Entourage around that story, and I would happily watch it.)

Stone is currently in cinemas now starring in The Help, and will next be seen in The Amazing Spider-Man, which is due out on 4th July next year, and is hard at work at the moment re-teaming with her Zombieland director Ruben Fleischer for The Gangster Squad. Beyond that, she doesn’t have a film in place yet, so if she signs on for this, production could well begin pretty soon. I really hope so, because I’m a big fan of Emma Stone’s work, and would love to see her leading another film. More news as we get it.
