STUDIOCANAL has unveiled the official trailer for ‘Elsinore,’ the powerful new drama directed by BAFTA nominee Simon Stone (The Dig) and written by BAFTA winner and Golden Globe nominee Stephen Beresford (Pride).
Based on the extraordinary life of acclaimed actor Ian Charleson, ‘Elsinore’ tells the deeply moving true story of a performer facing incredible odds as he prepares to give the performance of his life in Shakespeare’s ‘Hamlet’ at London’s National Theatre.
Andrew Scott, the BAFTA-winning and multi-Golden Globe-nominated star, leads the cast alongside Academy Award, Golden Globe and Emmy winner Olivia Colman.
The film brings together an impressive ensemble of British talent, including Billie Piper (Wednesday, Scoop), Johnny Flynn (Ripley, Beast), Luke Thompson (Bridgerton, Transatlantic), BAFTA and Olivier winner Monica Dolan (Mr Bates Vs The Post Office, Days Of The Bagnold Summer), Olivier winner Juliet Stevenson (Reawakening, Truly Madly Deeply), Joe Locke (Heartstopper Forever, Agatha All Along), BAFTA winner Adeel Akhtar (Ali & Ava, Sherwood), Matthew Beard (The Testament of Ann Lee, Vienna Blood), David Dawson (My Policeman, The Last Kingdom), Kadiff Kirwan (Slow Horses, This Is Going To Hurt), Dickie Beau (What It Feels Like For A Girl, Bohemian Rhapsody) and BAFTA winner Peter Mullan (I Swear, Ozark).
The trailer offers a glimpse at a deeply personal story of ambition, friendship, resilience and the extraordinary pressures surrounding one of the most demanding roles in the theatrical canon. At its centre is Charleson’s determination to step onto the National Theatre stage as Hamlet, despite the immense personal challenges he was facing.
‘Elsinore’ will have the honour of opening the 70th edition of the BFI London Film Festival on October 7th.
