After their first one screen union on The Theory of Everything, Eddie Redmayne and Felicity Jones are currently in talks to reunite on Amazon Studios, The Aeronauts.

The Aeronauts is based on the true story of balloon pilot Amelia Wren (who would be played by Jones) and scientist James Glaisher (Redmayne) who, in 1862, embarked on an extraordinary journey to discover the secrets of the heavens. In the process, they flew higher in an open balloon than anyone had before or has since. They made breathtaking discoveries, but as they ascended to the highest points of the atmosphere, they were forced into an epic fight for survival.

BAFTA nominated director, Tom Harper, who has worked on The Woman in Black 2, and the BBC series Peaky Blinders and War and Peace will take the helm on the film which has been penned by Jack Thorne. Mandeville Films’ Todd Lieberman and David Hoberman are producing alongside Harper.

Amazon won a heated bidding battle for the story which is most likely to appear exclusively on their streaming platform. A production start is yet to be confirmed.

Redmayne, who put in an Oscar-winning performance as Professor Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything is currently filming the Fantastic Beasts sequel, The Crimes of Grindelwald, in which he reprises his role as Newt Scamander. His vocal talents can be heard next in the Aardman Animation Early Man as Dug which is released early in 2018.

Felicity Jones starred alongside Redmayne in The Theory of Everything as Hawkins wife, Jane Hawking, she went on to star in Star Wars: Rogue One and A Monster Calls. We will next see her on the big screen in the biopic On the basis of Sex as Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
