Netflix has unveiled the trailer for ‘East of Eden,’ a bold new interpretation of John Steinbeck’s literary classic, adapted for the screen by Zoe Kazan.
The upcoming limited series spans generations of the Trask family, bringing Steinbeck’s sweeping story of family, love, rivalry and betrayal to a new audience while placing renewed focus on one of literature’s most compelling antiheroes, Cathy Ames, played by Florence Pugh.
Alongside Pugh, the series stars Christopher Abbott, Mike Faist, Hoon Lee, Joseph Zada and Joe Anders.
This fresh adaptation explores the multigenerational saga of the Trask family, with the story unfolding across decades as the characters wrestle with questions of identity, inheritance, loyalty and the battle between good and evil. At its centre is Cathy Ames, whose ambition, intelligence and ruthlessness make her an unforgettable force within the Trask family story.
Kazan serves as Executive Producer and Co-Showrunner alongside Jeb Stuart, with Garth Davis directing episodes one through four and serving as an Executive Producer. Laure de Clermont-Tonnerre directs episodes five through seven and also serves as an Executive Producer.
Steinbeck’s ‘East of Eden,’ first published in 1952, is widely regarded as one of the author’s defining works. The novel draws inspiration from the biblical story of Cain and Abel while examining the complicated bonds between fathers and sons, brothers and lovers.
