Exclusive: Djimon Hounsou on the importance of telling African-set stories in Hollywood

0

Having once described Africa as “voiceless” in the film industry, Djimon Hounsou – born in Benin, before being raised in France – explains that he actively pursues stories set in the continent, and describes to us why he felt The Legend of Tarzan was the perfect fit for him.

He also speaks about playing an unconventional villain, and the balance between the historical themes of imperialism, with the more fantastical, adventurous elements of this narrative.

The Legend of Tarzan is released on July 6th.
