After breaking from his indie niche with the disappointing mainstream action flick The Green Hornet, Michel Gondry is claiming his next film, The We and The I, is a much more lo-fi affair. I guess this is lo-fi in Gondry’s world…

The film will centre on a bus of school kids played by unknown actors from The Bronx according to The Playlist, and will be, as Gondry explains, more of a “social thing”. “It’s [about] kids on a bus…it’s about the group effect, how people in groups transform when the group is dislocated”, he said.

Ok, so a delicate social drama then? Well, there is the small addition of time travel to the plot that takes this seemingly ordinary film and transforms it well and truly back into a Gondry project. Apparently the kids will accidentally travel to the future and discover a machine that keeps people young. There had to be a twist in there somewhere…

With no actors named as yet  you can see how this is a return to the basics, or sorts, for Gondry and, as usual, it sounds pretty intriguing.

One last note, Gondry took care to state that this premise for the film is evidently accurate… “for now”. Oh how you tease, Michel.
