Cretton had been in place to direct the cancelled ‘Avengers: The Kang Dynasty,’ but left the project in November 2023. Cretton has continued to work Marvel and has co-created the upcoming ‘Wonder Man’ miniseries, starring Yahya Abdul Mateen II. Cretton has also been developing a sequel to ‘Shang-Chi,’ but a source close to the production says that ‘Spider-Man 4’ is currently the priority for the studio.
In the 2021 film ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home,’ Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange casts a spell that profoundly impacts the storyline, causing the entire world to forget the true identity of Peter Parker. This significant event affects not only Peter, but also his closest friends MJ, played by Zendaya, and Ned, played by Jacob Batalon. This served as the conclusion to the trilogy of films directed by Jon Watts. Watts directed the original film, ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming,’ in 2017, and its sequel, ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home.’
