Jim Grant, better known by his pen-name Lee Child, has made a very successful career for himself writing novels following Jack Reacher, former American Military Policeman.

The recognition for his novels is currently in the process of soaring even higher, with Tom Cruise attached to play the lead of Reacher in the film adaptation of Grant/Child’s 2005 novel, One Shot.

Variety now report that David Oyelowo is in talks to join Cruise on the project, which has been co-written by and will be directed by the legend that is Christopher McQuarrie (The Usual Suspects). As a co-writer of Valkyrie and Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, this marks the third pairing up of Cruise with McQuarrie, but it will be the first time McQuarrie will be directing him, for what will be his second feature film.

Most recently seen in this summer’s blockbuster hit, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Oyelowo has steadily been showing since his day’s on the BBC’s Spooks that he’s set to make a brilliant career for himself in America too, starring in The Last King of Scotland, and the upcoming films The Help, due out here on 28th October, and Red Tails, which will hopefully come out early next year.

He’s a man of substantial talent, and starring in a Tom Cruise movie should definitely be of benefit to him in making a bigger name for himself. Rosamund Pike has also been announced as being in talks to star, so the cast is shaping up nicely already. The Jack Reacher novels already have a firm readership in place, and I wouldn’t be surprised if we’ll have a number more adaptations of the original novels to look forward to in the years to come.
