Last month, we learned that Deadpool director Tim Miller had decided to leave the sequel due to creative differences with star Ryan Reynolds. Since then, a few names have surfaced as possibly being in contention, but John Wick co-director David Leitch – who was named by several sites as the frontrunner – has now officially signed up to take the helm of the movie.

Rupert Sanders, Drew Goddard and Magnus Martens were among the other filmmakers who met with 20th Century Fox, and while they would have all no doubt brought something interesting to the table, Leitch is a great choice who should deliver some amazing action.

After co-directing John Wick with  Chad Stahelski, Leitch moved on to tackle The Coldest City by himself, a thriller which stars Chalize Theron. He clearly impressed both Reynolds and the studio enough to land Deadpool 2 though, so it will be fun to see what he delivers here.

Very little is known about the Deadpool sequel right now, though it has been confirmed that both Cable and Domino will appear (possibly to set up an appearance from X-Force in a third Deadpool movie). The first instalment exceeded expectations both critically and commercially back in February, so the pressure is on Leitch to follow that up in a big way!
