David Fincher is delving deep into the minds of serial killers yet again in Netflix’s new original series Mindhunter, watch the trailer below for some tense investigation work.

Based on the John Douglas novel “Mind Hunter: Inside the FBI’s Elite Serial Crime Unit,” The series will be set in 1979 and will revolve around two FBI agents, played by Jonathan Groff and Holt McCallany, who interview imprisoned serial killers in order to understand how such criminals think, and apply it to solving ongoing cases.

The trailer focuses on the agent’s investigation a series of crimes from the sick and deluded killers who see nothing wrong in their actions “it’s not easy butchering people, it’s hard work” states a faceless voice over the image of a photograph of a dead girl being printed. Its feel is sinister and intelligent, exactly what you would expect from the man behind the likes of Zodiac and Gone Girl.

Written by Joe Penhall and Jennifer Haley, the series is directed by David Fincher (Gone Girl, Zodiac), Asif Kapadia (Amy, Senna), Tobias Lindholm (A War, A Hijacking) and Andrew Douglas (The Amityville Horror, U Want Me 2 Kill Him?). Fincher, Joshua Donen (Gone Girl, The Quick and the Dead), Charlize Theron (Girlboss, Hatfields & McCoys) and Cean Chaffin (Gone Girl, Fight Club) are Executive Producers.
