Led by the ever-brilliant Michael Cera, we got our first look images the film back in November, right after the festival’s line-up announcement. And now the first poster has debuted online, giving us another great look at the cactus-hugging Cera.
“Jamie is a boorish, insensitive American twentysomething traveling in Chile, who somehow manages to create chaos at every turn. He and his friends are planning on taking a road trip north to experience a legendary shamanistic hallucinogen called the San Pedro cactus. In a fit of drunkenness at a wild party, Jamie invites an eccentric woman—a radical spirit named Crystal Fairy—to come along. What is meant to be a devil-may-care journey becomes a battle of wills as Jamie finds himself locking horns with his new traveling companion. But on a remote, pristine beach at the edge of the desert, the magic brew is finally imbibed, and the true adventure begins. Preconceived notions and judgments fall away, and the ragtag group breaks through to an authentic moment of truth.”
Cera stars alongside Gabby Hoffmann, Juan Andrés Silva, José Miguel Silva, and Agustín Silva, with Silva directing from his own script.
Silva and Cera will be heading to the festival not just for Crystal Fairy, but also for the world premiere of Silva’s Magic Magic, in which Cera stars opposite Juno Temple and Emily Browning. This could definitely be a great month for Silva and Cera alike, and I’m rather hoping that at least one of the two films will be coming to Sundance London in April.
Crystal Fairy will be making its debut at Sundance this month, premiering next Thursday in Park City. No word yet on when we can expect it to arrive on the big screen, but here’s to hoping it will get a great reception at the festival, and quickly get picked up for distribution. For now, here’s the brilliant first poster, which you can click to enlarge. I’m really hoping that ‘& The Magical Cactus’ will indeed be the film’s subtitle.
