Robot-and-Frank-PosterDebuting at Sundance this time last year, Jake Schreier’s Robot and Frank earned very positive early reviews, and came away with the Alfred P. Sloan prize at the festival for its focus on science and technology.

The film had its UK debut at the BFI London Film Festival back in October – you can read our review here – and is now set to arrive on our shores for a theatrical release, following its US release last summer, this March.

“Set in the near future, aging curmudgeon and retired jewel thief Frank (Frank Langella) lives a solitary life until his son (James Marsden) installs a caretaker robot; against he and his daughter’s (Liv Tyler) wishes. The robot upends Frank’s lonely life – filled only with books and a visit to his favourite librarian (Susan Sarandon) – with a strict regimen of exercise, diet and gardening. Stubborn at first, Frank soon realizes Robot has the ability to pull off the most calculated of heists. An unlikely friendship, and crime duo, is born.”

Frank Langella takes the eponymous lead as Frank, starring alongside James Marsden, Liv Tyler, and Susan Sarandon, with Peter Sarsgaard lending his voice as the robot.

Schreier makes his feature directorial debut here, directing from a script by Christopher D. Ford, who also makes his debut.

Despite a fairly limited release in the US, the independent film still took an impressive $3.3m. in the US alone, and we’re looking forward to it finally coming to our shores.

Robot & Frank will be released in the UK on 8th March, and will be released on DVD in the US on 12th February. For now, here’s the UK trailer to set the mood. Enjoy.
