‘Cruella’ and ‘I, Tonya’ filmmaker, Craig Gillespie has been set to take the helm on the latest ‘Supergirl’ movie at DC Studios.

Titled ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’, the movie is said to be based on the DC comics run of the same name by Tom King and Bilquis Evely.

‘House of the Dragon’ star Milly Alcock will take on the titular role.

In the new movie, Supergirl travels across the galaxy to celebrate her 21st birthday with Krypto the Superdog. Along the way, she meets a young woman named Ruthye and winds up on a murderous quest for revenge.

James Gunn has hinted that DC Studio’s version of the superhero will be significantly different from previous interpretations of the character. He described the new take on the character as “much more hardcore” during the presentation of the first 10 titles in the new DCU slate back in 2023. According to him, the Supergirl in his movie won’t be the same as the one we’re used to seeing.

Gunn and Safran are producing. DC EVP Chantal Nong is executive producing. Ana Nogueira (“The Vampire Diaries”) is writing the screenplay.

Shooting is due to commence after ‘Superman: Legacy has wrapped later this year.
