To celebrate the release of new British drama VS., which has its premiere during this month’s London Film Festival, we sat down with the film’s star Connor Swindells and its co-writer/director Ed Lilly.

VS. tells the story of Adam (Swindells), a young man who has been in the care system since early childhood and has since moved to Southend where is assigned a caseworker. He happens about Makayla (Fola Evans-Akingbola) at a seafront amusement park and is soon joining her at the town’s underground hip-hop scene where he soon discovers a knack for rapping and an outlet for his rage and anger. Here. Lilly and Swindells talk about the catalyst for the film, setting it in Southend and the parallels between the film and 8 Mile.

VS. opens in UK cinemas on October 19th.
