Over the years, the cinema industry has been wowing audiences by bringing comic books to the big screen. Today, it’s safe to say that comic book movies have become a staple genre. Having said that, here are the top five exciting comic books coming to the silver screen soon. Note that some possible spoilers might be waiting for you throughout this article.

Aquaman 2

Aquaman 2Jason Momoa will be donning his iconic green and gold underwater superhero suit as Arthur Curry for Aquaman 2. At the time of writing, Aquaman fans still have to wait for the official release date of the comic book movie’s sequel. Nonetheless, some reports indicate that the film will be released in late 2022.

Amber Heard may also return as Arthur Curry’s on-screen wife, Mera. But, will Patrick Wilson’s portrayal as Orm Marius return for the movie’s second iteration?  Perhaps, only time will tell until the film’s staff announces the supervillain’s return from the first movie.

Additionally, both Ocean Master and Black Manta may form the basis of Aquaman 2’s plot. Other elements in the first film may lead to the telling of other aspects of DC Comics’s underwater civilization.

Black Widow

The end of the Black Widow, as depicted in Avengers: Endgame, doesn’t mean the end for Scarlett Johansson’s role as Marvel’s iconic SHIELD agent. But, the story for this film isn’t going to be a continuation after the epic fight with Thanos. Instead, fans will know more about the Black Widow and her past in this upcoming comic book movie.

As per the released trailers, many fans already know that the upcoming Black Widow movie is an action-packed film. The movie will also feature a more “personal” look into the agent’s past as moviegoers will get the chance to meet Natasha Romanova’s family.

Moreover, the Black Widow film introduces a not-so-new Marvel villain: Taskmaster. Natasha will have a tough time dealing with this new baddie as Taskmaster can copy his opponents’ physical abilities.

Black Widow will be shown on theaters by the final quarter of this year (hopefully).

Venom 2

Fans who stuck around for the post-credits scene of the first Venom movie already know who’s going to be the next villain for Venom 2. This time, Carnage, a symbiote who’s on the lookout for Venom, will be on the rampage. Carnage’s host, Cletus Kasady (played by Zombieland’s Woody Harrelson), shares the same thirst for bloodshed with the alien entity.

#venom

Fans are expecting Tom Hardy to reprise his role as Venom’s host, Eddie Brock. Also, Michelle Williams, who starred as Eddie’s ex-wife Anne Weying, will return for the sequel.

Hopefully, the next iteration will answer some questions left from the first film. For example, what’s going to happen with the relationship between Eddie and Anne?  Also, will there be a Spiderman tie-up soon?

Venom 2 will hopefully arrive in cinemas around October 2020.

Thor Love and Thunder

Thor Love and Thunder is the fourth movie in the Thor movie franchise. Chris Hemsworth will return as the God of Thunder for the ninth time.

Perhaps, fans might find it more exciting to see the return of Jane Foster (played by Natalie Portman) in the movie franchise. Many fans are now speculating if this fourth iteration will be the last time Hemsworth dons the mighty cape and hammer of the Nordic god. If so, does that mean that Thor Love and Thunder will be the precursor to Jane Foster becoming the next Thor?

But, aside from Portman returning to the Thor franchise, moviegoers will also get to see other familiar faces. Some of the returning cast include Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) and Korg (Taika Waititi).

Thor Love and Thunder might not hit theaters until summer of 2021.

Morbius

Marvel has many superheroes and superheroines in colorful attires. But, Morbius brings a dark comic book antihero to the big screen.

Morbius, played by Suicide Squad’s Jared Leto, is a biochemist with a rare blood disease. Seeking help, the professional travels the world in search of a cure. He stumbles upon electro-therapy, a process to fuse his blood with bats in an attempt to cure his disease.

Despite the operation’s success, Michael Morbius acquires the properties of the vampire bats. But, his thirst for blood also comes with enhanced agility and strength.

Morbius may arrive at several theaters around the globe next summer.

The movies mentioned above are only a few of the many upcoming comic book films coming to the big screen. It’s still unclear if these movies are going to sell out on the first day or become feature film flops. Nonetheless, many fans can’t wait for these comic book heroes, heroines, and antiheroes to arrive in theaters.
