Watching the twitterstream flood with the first reactions of those out in Cannes to watch the first screenings of Terrence Malick’s The Tree of Life was intriuging.
There was an air of inevitability as what followed was a mixture of bewlideredment and admiration, accusations of pretention clashed with those hailing it as a masterpiece and one thing was clear – Malick’s film was divicive and could not be ignored. Indeed Rian Johnson, whose latest film Looper has recently entered post-production, just tweeted the following:
