Having trotted through time in Terry Gilliam’s sublime Twelve Monkeys, Bruce Willis will be on familiar ground when he steps into Rian Johnson’s next film, Looper.

Johnson’s third feature already has Joseph Gordon-Levitt on board for this film, which revolves around a team of hitmen whose victims are sent back from the future and killed in the past, thus creating the perfect crime.

Rian Johnson has revealed a little more about the plot of the eagerly awaited film, which you can find here, and it’s a suitable intriguing premise from Johnson, whose Brick and Brothers Bloom were eccentric and brilliant takes on their respective genres.

Gordon-Levitt is set to play one of these Loopers and now Deadline is giving us the news from Cannes that Bruce Willis is signed up for a role in the film, there’s a potential spoiler in here, so tread with caution over the next paragraph.

Here’s the detail,

Willis and Gordon-Levitt will play the same character, in those different time frames.

This pretty much confirms the plot elements which have been floating around the internet ether that Gordon-Levitt will be tasked with killing someone from the future, who turns out to be him. With this film and Duncan Jones’ Source Code taking their cues from the manipulation of time, there’s plenty to look forward (and back) to.
