The first trailer for Joel Edgerton’s second feature film, Boy Erased, has arrived.

Based on Garrard Conley’s memoir, titled Boy Erased: A Memoir, the film is written and directed by Edgerton.

The cast includes Lucas Hedges as Jared, a Southern teen who is sent to gay conversion therapy by his religious mom and dad (Oscar winners Nicole Kidman and Russell Crowe). Edgerton plays the program’s head therapist.

The film satisfies the dramatic and salacious stuff that interested me, but it also had an emotional resonance to it that I felt didn’t just make it a dark and nihilistic story,” Edgerton says.

The film is scheduled for a limited US release on November 2.
