Sally-Hawkins-and-Cate-Blanchett-in-Blue-JasmineContinuing his remarkably impressive streak of releasing at least one movie a year, Woody Allen returns to the big screen this summer with Blue Jasmine, another romantic comedy following up from last year’s To Rome with Love.

Allen’s last romantic comedy was received with mixed feelings from critics, but his previous film, Midnight in Paris, earned him his fourth Oscar, proving he remains as talented as ever, and we’re always looking forward to his next work.

Blue Jasmine is set to be released in the US in just a few months’ time, and now the first image of Cate Blanchett and Sally Hawkins has debuted online.

As you might expect, plot details are being kept fairly under wraps, but here’s what we do know:

“It is the story of the final stages of an acute crisis and a life of a fashionable New York housewife.”

Blanchett and Hawkins are joined by another terrific ensemble, led by Alec Baldwin, Bobby Cannavale, Louis C.K., Andrew Dice Clay, Peter Sarsgaard, and Michael Stuhlberg.

Allen is naturally once more directing from his own script, with past collaborators Letty Aronson and Stephen Tenenbaum (Midnight in Paris, Vicky Cristina Barcelona) returning to produce alongside Edward Walson (City Island).

Blue Jasmine will be released in New York and Los Angeles on 26th July, with Sony Pictures Classics continuing to open it in wider release in successive weeks. No word yet on a UK release date, but here’s to hoping it will be following shortly after.
