Marvel’s plan’s to resurrect its ‘Blade’ movie seems to be back on track since its announcement in 2019 with Bassam Tariq looking set to complete a deal to take the helm.

Tariq, who directed Riz Ahmed’s Mogul Mowgli, is certain to take on the project which will see Mahershala Ali take on the role of the Vampire Hunter made famous by Wesley Snipes.

Stacy Osei-Kuffour is on board to pen the script with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige producing.

It is reported that Marvel chief Feige, alongside Ali went through a rigorous process to find the right director for the project. Having spent months meeting with potential helmers, it was Tariq’s vision in the last round of presentations that impressed the decision-makers the most.

‘Blade’ is a human-vampire hybrid thanks to his mother being bitten and killed by a blood-sucker during childbirth. The trilogy of films trilogy of blockbusters began with 1998’s ‘Blade.’ It went on to spawn 2002’s ‘Blade II’ and 2004’s ‘Blade Trinity’ and focused on the vigilante, a human who possesses vampire strength and protect humans from the bloodsuckers.

Alongside ‘Mogul Mowgli’ Tariq’s catalogue includes ‘These Birds Walk,’ ’11/8/16,’ ‘Red Mountain Choir,’ ‘Wa’ad,’ ‘Mogambo’ and ‘Ghosts of Sugar Land.’
