This morning at BAFTA HQ in Piccadilly the nominations for the 2015 British Academy of Film and Televisions Arts awards were announced.
Last year 12 Years a Slave and Gravity garnered the lion’s share of awards and this year again showcases a fine year for film.
Will Poulter won the public vote for the Rising Star award and this year another five actors are in the running, their names were revealed earlier in the week – our money is on Jack O’Connell.
Unsurprisingly Birdman steals into the spotlight, as does Richard Linklater’s Boyhood which goes to prove that original cinema is not only alive and well but carrying the torch. But where is Mike Leigh’s Mr. Turner? That’ll guarantee the annual non-British bias arguments will be bellowed until the 8th comes around.
The 2015 awards ceremony will be held on Sunday, the 8th of February at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden with Lord Stephen Fry doing his bit. We’ll be there, hope you’ll join us.
