Billy Crudup is no stranger to the world of comic book movies after playing the iconic Dr. Manhattan in Zack Snyder’s big screen adaptation of Watchmen, but he now looks set to join the DC Films Universe. According to Variety, the actor is in talks to play the father of Barry Allen in The Flash movie, a character fans of the TV show will no doubt be familiar with.

For those of you who aren’t familiar with him though, Henry Allen was wrongly imprisoned for the murder of his wife. The real culprit was the time-travelling villain Reverse-Flash, and Barry would spend years trying to prove his father’s innocence and free him from prison.

This marks the third major casting addition to The Flash after Ezra Miller as Barry Allen (who appeared in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad, and in Justice League next year) and Kiersey Clemons as Iris West. Dope helmer Rick Famuyiwa is directing, while Seth Grahame-Smith penned the screenplay based on Chris Miller and Phil Lord’s treatment.

Aside from Watchmen, Crudup also recently appeared in Spotlight and The Standford Prison Experiment. He also wrapped production on Ridley Scott’s Alien: Covenant not too long ago. Expect even more casting news for The Flash to follow over the coming weeks and months.
