We’ve had the shortlists in a handful of categories already – Best Animated Feature, Best Visual Effects, Best Documentary, Best Original Score, and Best Original Song – and now the Academy have announced the shortlist for the Best Makeup and Hairstyling.
Competing for the final list of nominees will be:
- Hitchcock
- The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey
- Les Misérables
- Lincoln
- Looper
- Men in Black 3
- Snow White and the Huntsman
Back in 1997, Men in Black took home the same award for Rick Baker and David LeRoy Anderson, and Richard Taylor and Peter King did the same six years later on The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King.
All other contenders are original films, with immaculate makeup and hairstyling. And it’s brilliant to see that Rian Johnson’s Looper is getting recognised for its impressive work, not least in changing Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s physical appearance to look like a younger version of Bruce Willis.
From this list, a final three films will be making it into the Oscars nominations list, which will be announced on 10th January. The Academy Awards themselves will then be held on Sunday, 24th February, and we can’t wait to see the results. We’ll be following the night’s events as they happen, and would love for you to join us and tweet along, too.
