Dr Strange

With Scott Derrickson set to direct Doctor Strange, the hunt for an actor to play the character has begun, and British actors Benedict Cumberbatch (Star Trek Into Darkness) and Tom Hardy (The Dark Knight Rises) have emerged as early frontrunners for the coveted role in Marvel’s next big superhero franchise.

Derrickson will helm the movie from a script by Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer (Conan the Barbarian), although other writers are still said to be in the mix.

Casting is obviously at a very early on for Doctor Strange (which many believe will be released alongside Captain America 3 in 2016), the fact that these two very impressive actors are on Marvel’s wishlist gives us an idea as to what to expect. Scheduling could prove to be an issue for them both however.

Hardy has Splinter Cell in the works, while Cumberbatch has a number of projects lined up as well.

Either one of these actors would be a very fitting choice to bring the Sorcerer Supreme to the big screen though, and if you’d like to learn more about Doctor Strange, you can do so by clicking here. Which of these actors – or any others – do you think Marvel Studios should choose for the role?
