Michael-Douglas-and-Matt-Damon-in-Behind-the-CandelabraBehind the Candelabra could potentially be the last we see of Steven Soderbergh, depending on how his retirement/sabbatical takes shape in the years to come.

We’ve just seen the release of what could be his final theatrical film, Side Effects, and next up will be Behind the Candelabra, which is set to air on HBO at the end of May.

So far, we’ve only seen a handful of images and set photos from the Liberace biopic. But now HBO have released the first teaser trailer.

It’s essentially just the credits, announcing the May release date. But it’s still great to see that the project is finally about to get its premiere. And HBO seems like a perfect fit for the feature-length movie.

Michael Douglas takes the lead as Liberace, himself, with Matt Damon starring opposite as Liberace’s lover of five years, Scott Thorson. And joining them will be Dan Aykroyd, Rob Lowe, and Boyd Holbrook.

Soderbergh is directing from a script penned by Richard LaGravenese (Water for Elephants), based on Thorson’s autobiography, Behind the Candelabra: My Life with Liberace.

Behind the Candelabra will be airing on HBO on 26th May. No word yet on a UK airing date, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it airs on Sky Atlantic on our shores.
