James Franco and Michelle Williams in Oz: The Great and PowerfulDue out in the spring, Sam Raimi’s Oz: The Great and Powerful is by far one of the most promising films we have to look forward to in 2013.

Starring James Franco as the eponymous Oz, we saw the fantastic first trailer for the film back in the summer, and after most recently getting another excellent look at the film with a handful of new images, Disney have sent over another brilliant set of stills of Franco and his leading co-stars.

“When Oscar Diggs, a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he’s hit the jackpot – fame and fortune are his for the taking – that is until he meets three witches, Theodora, Evanora and Glinda, who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone’s been expecting. Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity – and even a bit of wizardry – Oscar transforms himself not only into the great and powerful Wizard of Oz but into a better man as well.”

Starring alongside him will be an absolutely stellar cast, headed up by Mila Kunis, Michelle Williams, Rachel Weisz, Zach Braff (who also lends his voice for a second role), Abigail Spencer, Tim Holmes, and Joey King.

Raimi is directing from a script by Mitchell Kapner (The Whole Nine Yards) and David Lindsay-Abaire (Rabbit Hole), and partners once more with the great Danny Elfman (Spider-Man), who is taking scoring duties.

The images below also give us a better look at what looks to be Joey King’s China Girl, alongside Zach Braff’s Finley, the flying monkey he’ll be voicing as the second of his two roles.

Oz: The Great and Powerful will be released on 8th March, 2013, and given the epic scope of the first trailer and the images we’ve since seen, I’m really hoping it will secure an IMAX release too. For now, here are the beautiful new images, which you can click through to enlarge. Enjoy.
