Captain America: Civil War directors Joe and Anthony Russo have been saying for a while now that Avengers: Infinity War will be two very separate movies, and even explained to us in a recent interview that they’re only being shot back to back due to scheduling issues.

Further reiterating that those Part 1 and Part 2 subtitles shouldn’t be taken too literally, the filmmakers have now confirmed that both Avengers: Infinity War movies will be retitled in the near future. Announced alongside the rest of Marvel’s Phase 3 slate, that choice of title was a good way to make it clear that Phase 3 will conclude with Earth’s Mightiest Heroes going to war with Thanos in two epic movies bringing this long running story to a close.

After making it clear that they’re two very different movies and that labelling them as Part 1 and Part 2 is “misleading,” Joe added: “The intention is we will change it, we just haven’t come up with the titles yet. But, yes, we will change it. And, yes, that is a scoop: we will retitle them.” Just how much those titles will change obviously now remains to be seen!

Regardless of what they end up being called, Avengers: Infinity War is going to be massive, likely bringing in the Guardians of the Galaxy and pretty much every other Marvel movie character to battle Thanos. Who knows though, perhaps he’ll only be the villain one of ’em…
