August:-Osage-County-sliceMaking its debut out in Toronto back in September, John Wells’ August: Osage County has been coming in a little more under the radar in recent months, but is very much a contender heading towards January’s Oscar nominations announcement.

Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts anchor the family comedy-drama, and having seen little from the film since the latest trailer that surfaced in tandem with its TIFF premiere, The Weinstein Company has released a new clip over on IMDb, giving a look at Streep as the family matriarch.

“August: Osage County” tells the dark, hilarious and deeply touching story of the strong-willed women of the Weston family, whose lives have diverged until a family crisis brings them back to the Midwest house they grew up in, and to the dysfunctional woman who raised them.

Streep and Roberts top a fantastic cast, starring alongside Ewan McGregor, Chris Cooper, Abigail Breslin, Benedict Cumberbatch, Juliette Lewis, Margo Martindale, Dermot Mulroney, Jack Nicholson, Sam Shepard, and Misty Upham.

Wells, who made his feature debut with the criminally under-rated and under-seen The Company Men, returns behind the camera here for his sophomore feature. He’s directing from a script penned by Tracy Letts, who adapts his own Pulitzer Prize-winning play of the same name.

August: Osage County will be one of the handful of high-profile films heading into US cinemas on Christmas Day. Here in the UK, it will reach our shores a little later, set for release on 17th January.
