When it was first revealed that The Angry Birds mobile game was getting a movie, the response was mostly one of ridicule. After all, as fun as it is to play, it was hard to picture how on Earth that could be taken an turned into a coherent ninety minute story on the big screen. Well, it happened, and while the reviews were mixed, it proved to be a box office hit.

After all, it made an impressive $347 million worldwide on a budget of only $73 million.

Despite not offering too many details on what we should expect, Rovio Chief Executive Kati Levoranta recently revealed that the company has already “started planning” an Angry Birds sequel. There’s no word on a release date or which members of the cast (which was made up of names like Jason Sudeikis, Josh Gad, Peter Dinklage, and Maya Rudolph) will return.

Fans of the first instalment will no doubt be very pleased to hear this news regardless, and there’s every chance that a sequel could be great providing the studio takes into account the criticisms aimed at The Angry Birds Movie. While it was far from an instant classic, there was a lot to like in there, so be sure to stay tuned for further updates on this one as we get them.
