Andrew Garfield, Monica Barbaro (A Complete Unknown) and Yura Borisov (Anora) have entered into negotiations to star in Luca Guadagnino’s Amazon MGM Studios feature ‘Artificial.’

Sources say the film revolves around the period at the artificial intelligence company OpenAI in 2023 that saw CEO Sam Altman fired and rehired in a matter of days.

Simon Rich penned the script and will produce alongside Heyday Films’ David Heyman and Jeffrey Clifford. Jennifer Fox is also in talks to produce.

The film will reunite Guadagnino and Amazon MGM Studios. He directed ‘After the Hunt,’ starring Julia Roberts, Garfield and Ayo Edebiri, which the studio is releasing in theatres on October 10.

Guadagnino was initially set to begin production on DV Studios’ Sgt. Rock starring Colin Farrell this year, but with production being pushed back a year, the filmmaker wanted to fill his time with a new project. Once deals are completed, it is expected that the project will begin filming this year.
