Jimi Hendrix

It’s been a long time coming, but the big screen biopic of Jimi Hendrix is now just months away and we have the first trailer for you right here. The movie is directed by 12 Years a Slave writer John Ridley, and André Benjamin (best known for being one half of OutKast) plays the legendary musician.

How well All Is By My Side is able to tell Hendrix’s story when his estate wouldn’t actually allow the use of his music in the film remains to be seen, although the film was mostly well received by critics when it was screened at the Toronto International Film Festival earlier this year.

In the trailer which can be viewed in the player below, Benjamin does seem to be doing a pretty solid job of playing Hendrix, although the focus is very much on manager Chas Changer and those around him as they helped to launch the singer into the world renowned legend he is today.

Taking place in London in 1966, All Is by My Side not only explores Hendrix’s rise to fame, but also his struggles against the prevailing social stigmas of the time. The movie’s cast includes Imogen Poots, Hayley Atwell, Ashley Charles, and Ruth Negga, and is set to be released on September 26th.

Described by writer-director John Ridley (12 Years a Slave) as one of the most rarely told stories in rock history, “All Is By My Side” charts just over a year in a man’s life. The year he blossomed and became Jimi Hendrix. The year he spent as a young musician trying to make it on the streets and in the clubs of London, England. The lovers, friends, and musical collaborators, who helped him get there. Starring Andre Benjamin in an electrifying performance as Hendrix, “All Is By My Side” also features a stand out supporting cast including Hayley Atwell, Imogen Poots, and Ruth Negga.
