As soon as Bollywood star Alia Bhatt walked into the Berlin hotel room we interviewed her in, you knew instantly you were in the presence of a true star. The actress, who has 60 million followers on Instagram, is one of the shining lights of the film industry, and is on top form in latest feature Gangubai Kathiawadi, directed by the masterful Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

Bhatt spoke to us in detail about the project at hand, and working with the filmmaker. She talks about her casting, and the controversy that surrounded it, and on the role streaming sites such as Netflix can play in bringing Bollywood into the homes of millions worldwide, and perhaps those less accustomed to the flourishing industry.

She also talks about her own career, and her future ambitions – and whether she too will follow in the footsteps of Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra in making the move over to Hollywood – while we also asked her about managing her social media presence, and what role the likes of Instagram can play in her success.
