Richard Curtis’ About Time is by far one of the best romantic-comedies you’ll see all year, marking his most personal film to date, and certainly one of his funniest.

The heart of the film beats with charm, and is fortunately just a few short days away from its release here in the UK. And to celebrate, Universal have released three hilarious new TV spots, teasing just a few short snippets of the brilliant comedy and romance soon to be arriving on the big screen.

At the age of 21, Tim is told an incredible family secret by his father: all the men in his family have the ability to relive their past. He can revisit any moment in his life to try things differently until he gets them perfectly right.

He decides to use his special new gift to win the heart of the beautiful Mary, but finds that the course of true love can be hilariously difficult — even with the ability to try, try and try again. And even when everything seems to be going well, an unfortunate twist in time means that he never met Mary at all… While his unique gift might just help him find true love, Tim discovers that it can’t save him from the ups and downs that life brings to everyone. In the end, he finds that making the most of love and life will mean giving up the past and living for the moment.

Domhnall Gleeson and Rachel McAdams take the lead as the young couple in question, Tim and Mary. And they’re joined by a fantastic ensemble cast, led by Bill Nighy, Lydia Wilson, Tom Hollander, Lindsay Duncan, Vanessa Kirby, Margot Robbie, and Joshua McGuire. McGuire and Hollander’s little riff in the first of the TV spots below is especially genius.

Curtis is naturally directing from his own script, with Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner once more producing Curtis’ movie.

About Time is landing in the UK next Wednesday, 4th September. And after screening at the New York Film Festival in early October, the movie will begin its limited release in the US on November 1st, with its wide US release date set for the following week on November 8th.

Since graduating, I spend as much time as possible watching films/TV shows, reading books, and listening to music. So getting to write about what I love is nothing short of awesome. Biggest film-related hope for 2014/ever: Guy Ritchie announcing the RocknRolla sequel is finally moving forward.
