Aaron Eckhart has signed on to star in Roland Emmerich’s World War II drama, Midway.

Eckhart is also joined by newly announced cast members Keean Johnson, Tadanobu Asano, Dennis Quaid and Nick Jonas. Previously announced cast members include Luke Evans, Woody Harrelson, Mandy Moore, Ed Skrein, and Patrick Wilson.

Harrelson will play Admiral Chester Nimitz, Wilson will play Navy Rear Admiral Edward Layton, Evans is on board for the role of Lieutenant Commander Wade McClusky and Johnson will play an Airforce radioman.

Based on the true story of the Battle of Midway, a turning point in the Pacific theatre of World War II, the $100M+ action-drama will chronicle the exploits of the soldiers and pilots at the heart of the conflict.

Emmerich directs from a script by Wes Tooke. Producers are Emmerich’s Centropolis Entertainment, Harald Kloser, and Mark Gordon. Starlight Entertainment Group and AGC Studios are financing in partnership with Ingenious. CAA Media Finance packaged the film, brokered the financing and the U.S. and Chinese distribution deals.

Eckhart was last seen on the big screen in Bleed For This opposite Miles Teller and Sully as Tom Hanks co-pilot in the biographical drama.

Quaid has recently been a regular face on TV the series Fortitude as Michael Lennox. Other big screen projects Quaid has lined up are Jonathan and Josh Baker directed sci-fi Kin, The Intruder and James Franco’s The Pretenders alongside Juno Temple and Franco.

Filming is due to begin from September 5 in Honolulu.
