After missing out on a Best Actor run last year in the Coen brothers’ Inside Llewyn Davis, Oscar Isaac is entering the race again this year in J.C. Chandor’s A Most Violent Year.

The film marks the writer-director’s follow-up to All Is Lost, another film that went largely unrecognised by the Academy and a slew of other awards ceremonies, but fortunately A24 is poised to give Chandor’s third film a much bigger drive in the coming weeks, and with just under two months before its arrival, a new trailer has landed to whet our appetites.

A thriller set in New York City during the winter of 1981, statistically one of the most violent years in the city’s history, and centered on a the lives of an immigrant and his family trying to expand their business and capitalize on opportunities as the rampant violence, decay, and corruption of the day drag them in and threaten to destroy all they have built.

Jessica Chastain shares centre stage alongside Isaac, with support from David Oyelowo, Alessandro Nivola, and Albert Brooks.

A Most Violent Year will be released in the US on December 31st and in the UK on January 23rd.
