Shigeru Miyamoto has revealed that he is currently developing a Super Mario Bros. game for the Nintendo 3DS.

We already knew that some of the developer’s biggest franchise names – such as Zelda – had been confirmed for the new handheld system, although a 3D Mario Kart aside, the adventurous plumber had been noticeable by his absence in a headlining platformer.

CVG is now reporting that he originally revealed to the company’s investors back in November that a new Super Mario Bros is top of their priority list and they aim to have it out ‘as soon as possible’.

“In the interests of adopting new technology for the Super Mario Bros. tradition, I am now making a new Super Mario Bros. game for the Nintendo 3DS system,” he revealed.

“I want to show everyone as soon as possible what the new Super Mario Bros. will be like on the Nintendo 3DS.”
