3d TVs started shipping this week in the UK. Could this be the biggest shakein the world of TVs for a while? Progress is always great when it comes to technology and I love thinking about the fact that the television really is still quite a new invention.

We’ve had still images change to moving ones, then the invention of sound to go along with those moving pictures, then those pictures got some colour, then they went all wide-screen, then high definition and now here we are at 3d TVs. What’s next?!

According to The Blu Ray Disc Association website (via ElectricPig.co.uk), John Lewis are the first to be selling these sets.

Samsung was the first to have its technology in stores, with the 40-inch UE40-C7000 TV and BD-C6900 Blu-ray 3D player available from selected retailers and also online. Panasonic, Sony, LG and others are all expected to follow suit over the coming weeks and months.

And just incase you were wondering, Monsters vs. Aliens is the first ever feature film to be released in the new 3d format. This will go along nicely with the movie quiz knowledge that Twister was the first feature film to be released on DVD. Don’t say we never give you any useless information! 🙂

Is this a gimick or is it the future? I guess time will tell. Find out more on costs and availability of the new 3d tv format over at ElectricPig.co.uk
