Ben Affleck’s Argo opened over the weekend in the US, and the early numbers show it coming in with very strong figures in second position, along with a very rare A+ rating from cinemagoers, which will hopefully see those numbers continue to do well in the coming weeks.

One of a handful of strong contenders in the coming Oscar season, the film is screening as part of the BFI London Film Festival this month, and with it now playing in US theatres, Warner Bros. have released three new TV spots for the film.

“Based on true events, Warner Bros. Pictures’ and GK Films’ dramatic thriller “Argo” chronicles the life-or-death covert operation to rescue six Americans, which unfolded behind the scenes of the Iran hostage crisis–the truth of which was unknown by the public for decades.”

Affleck stars in the lead, with support from a fantastic ensemble, headed up by John Goodman, Scoot McNairy, Bryan Cranston, Alan Arkin, Kyle Chandler, Taylor Schilling, Clea DuVall, and Tate Donovan.

Chris Terrio penned the script, adapting the fascinating original 2007 Wired article by Joshuah Bearman, How the CIA Used a Fake Sci-Fi Flick to Rescue Americans from Tehran, which you can (and should) read here.

We heard last week that Affleck is already in talks to line up his next project, Live by Night, which would see him return behind and in front of the camera, as well as penning the script and producing, adapting the original novel by Dennis Lehane – author of Gone Baby Gone and Shutter Island.

Argo is currently playing in US theatres, and will be released here in the UK a little later on 7th November, giving us just a few more weeks to wait before it arrives on our shores. I can’t wait. For now, here are the great new TV spots. Enjoy.
